Are the workshops actually art classes or therapy?
Sunflower and Ivy offers a whole host of workshops including emotional resilience workshops, private art therapy groups, and school holiday classes. Each is different and blends art making and therapeutic objectives differently. Even our most “fun” workshops are targeted towards skills building and emotional learning through art-it’s what makes us special! Because everyone will experience our workshops and classes differently we can not promise their therapeutic value. Please book into a closed/private group session or individual art therapy session if you are seeking deeper emotional support and art therapy.
Can I get a medicare rebate for art therapy? Are you a NDIS registered provider?
If you self manage your NDIS funding or are Plan managed you can choose our services. Sunflower and Ivy is yet to become a registered provider and cannot see NDIS participants who are NDIA managed. Unfortunately Art Therapy is not applicable for medicare rebates in Australia at this time. We hope this will change in the future. d
Are you or any other teachers at Sunflower and Ivy qualified?
All practitioners working for Sunflower and Ivy are registered art therapists with ANZACATA and have at least a postgraduate university degree in art therapy. Art therapy even in its more occupational “studio” state provides a service for people who are vulnerable and seeking professional support. It is therefore important to us that practitioners are well trained in the skills needed to support their clients wellness, growth and to manage any ethical dilemmas which arise.
Do you offer outreach or online sessions?
Yes, we do offer outreach individual sessions either at you or your child’s home, school or in an alternative space as long as it meets requirements for you to get the most out of art therapy. There are also group and workshop offerings available for “outreach” (your location of choice). We can provide online art therapy services via zoom. Zoom or telehealth session fees are $130. Please get in touch to discuss.
Will I make artwork to keep?
It depends on the class or workshop. Sometimes the focus is on the process of making rather than the end product. There may be times when you make an abundance of artwork to keep, other times one piece or nothing at all. We invite you to decide what to do with your artwork at the end of your workshop or session. .
Is your space accessible?
Our office at 5/222 Chesterpass Road, used for individual art therapy sessions and small groups is wheelchair accessible. Larger workshops are held in various venues around Albany and unfortunately not all our accessible, please contact us to get in touch.
Are the workshops you offer like group therapy?
No. Our small “closed” group sessions are our closest service to “group therapy”. Workshops and classes are our community based service, meaning they are often less therapy more art or aim to introduce self-applied concepts of therapeutic art making and personal growth. They are designed to be an introduction to a topic and harness the inherent qualities of art making, whilst skill building but without going too deep psychologically. You’ll find most of our workshops are themed and can be very fun and playful. They are a nice introduction to emotional resilience but our groups should not replace individualized and clinical art therapy.
